Fighting a Cold

The soggy tissues started to pile up making a snow-white layer on the floor. She didn’t care. Her irritated eyes stung and the tears streamed down her face stinging the broken skin around her tender red nose. She took a sip of the steaming lemon and honey tea and tried to focus on the book on her lap. She wished she could go to bed for a few hours pull the blankets up over her head and sleep, waiting for the miserable cold to pass. But as always, life needed tending to, jobs to be done, others needs to be taken care of. And so she applied the blend to her neck and wrists, inhaling the fresh and restoring fragrance through her stuffy nose and powered on.

Essential oils for a cold

PINE: Pinus sylvestris, is an excellent expectorant. It is considered one of the best oils to clear cold phlegm from the lungs. It can be used for sinus and bronchial congestion.

LEMON: Citrus limon, The antimicrobial properties of lemon oil are very useful for treating the symptoms of colds, flu and bronchitis.

ROSEMARY: Rosmarinus officinalis, Rosemary has been used medicinally for centuries. It has a stimulating effect on the central nervous system and its antimicrobial properties will boost cold recovery. (please note, this oil should not be used during pregnancy).

RAVENSARA: Agathophyllum aromatica, Ravensara’s antiviral properties support the body in fighting off illness (please note, this oil should not be used during pregnancy).

Post-viral recovery blend

2 drops Lemon oil

2 drops Pine oil

1 drop Rosemary oil

30 ml sweet almond oil

Blend the above together, apply twice a day to chest and wrists.

Drink: Lemon and honey

Juice of half a lemon

1 teaspoon honey

Add to a mug of hot water
