Home for Winter

The embers glowed hot and the fierce, intense heat was a relief to her. She was home. Crackling and sparking, the fresh wood she placed on the fire brought back fond memories of distant, happier times. Carefully, she moved the ancient leather armchair closer to the inviting warmth and sank into its soft and forgiving support.

Garlands of deep green spruce hung around the fireplace, freshly picked that morning. The needles still cold from the winter chill. Comforting scents of cinnamon, cloves and sweet orange settled over her like a warm and soothing blanket. She had much to prepare for the season ahead, but for now she could take a moment to rest.

Safe, warm and home.
