Alter ego Writing

This week I am going to give alter ego writing a try. I know some people publish under a pen name, but I am more thinking along the lines of attempting to embody a whole new personality when writing.

Beyoncé has an alter ego called Sasha Fierce for when she is performing on stage, and I bet many other people (who maybe don’t admit to it) have one as well. It sounds like a interesting idea, so I figure I might give it a go with my writing this week.

I am going to come up with an alter ego personality who is a badass writer, who doesn’t worry or give a fig about whether any one else is going to like it. My alter ego would just get on with it, with supreme confidence. She would put her stuff out into the world without over-thinking every word or line. In fact, she is so confident and sure of herself she shouts about her work from the rooftops!

Have you ever tried this? I am off to spend some time thinking up a good alter ego name (which will probably be the most fun part!!).

  1. Oh yes! Before, I gained enough confidence to use my real name when I performed poetry. I used my alter ego ‘Carolina de la Cruz’, she was fiesty and feared nothing. Now, I perform under my own name, Carolyn Crossley – The Vixen of Verse. I do have another alter ego who is a totally different character to me. She is a colonel’s very merry widow called Delphinia Golightly! She wears a red hat and red feather boa and has a different voice and accent to me! I bring her out at open mic nights!

    1. Delphinia Golightly sounds amazing!! I was thinking along the lines of Iona Montgomery, but now I am thinking that sounds far too tame!
