8 Years, Really?

Recently, I have been enjoying the wee achievement badges that WordPress have been awarding. I have not long earned my Globe trotter badge which is quite fun, to know that the blog has had visitors from 50 + different countries is pretty cool.

But one badge did make me a little sad – apparently I have had my blog for 8 years. Eight years doesn’t feel real, I think because I feel I have only really got going with this blog in the last few years. It’s sad because that is many years of me wanting to post but not feeling confident enough to ‘put it out there’. I would write a post, agonise over posting it, eventually publish it, only to chicken out and archive it within 30 minutes! Ridiculous!

It has only been the past couple of years I have started to feel able to post online without too much worry, and I have found that the more I do it, the easier it becomes. It is true that the more you do things that you fear, the easier it gets. And now in fact, I really enjoy writing on here.

So if you are reading this and you are nervous about posting, don’t waste years like I did. I encourage you to keep doing it and just know it gets easier the more you do so.

Don’t let a lack of confidence spoil your joy in writing.

  1. I’m very happy for you! It’s also very kind of you to encourage others. Each of us is so special and wonderfully unique, and when we choose to share our talents with others, we further enrich this world with the singular beauty of ourselves.

  2. It is daunting at first. I think we imagine the whole world seeing our post. I felt vulnerable and naked probably for the first year. I have slowly learned to lean into the discomfort. The surprise is always the kindness people show to my writing. I’m glad you are now posting your work. You never know who you might encourage.

    1. It does feel very exposing at first. I too have been surprised just how lovely, kind and encouraging people are on here. I think we see so much horribleness on the internet that we forget not everyone is there to judge and be mean. I am glad I have found your writing too, and appreciate your encouraging comments 😊
