The Enchanted Life

I was lucky enough to escape on a wee holiday deep in the Cornish woodlands for a few days. It was a long awaited holiday and I had been saving this book – The Enchanted Life by Sharon Blackie for absolutely ages (since Christmas in fact!) as I knew I wanted to read it somewhere special.

I think with hindsight that was a mistake, whilst I enjoyed the book, I didn’t love it as much as I had been hoping. Don’t get me wrong it is a great book, I just had had different expectations for it. I found it more academical than whimsical, which is totally fine but for on my break I wanted a little more enchanting escapism.

But really what it showed is we shouldn’t always wait for what we think is the perfect time to feel the enchantment and magic in our lives, we should just create it everyday. On the boring, mundane days (I would say especially the boring mundane days!) as well as the holidays and fun days. I had been ‘saving up’ this book for a special occasion, just like I tend to keep pretty notebooks just for that ‘special’ project, the project that is worthy of being noted down in such a beauty. But why wait? Who knows what life is going to throw at us at any moment so we might as well squeeze as much joy out of things whilst we can.

Like today, I am writing this post with a coffee that’s in a beautiful hand-made mug. Its the first time I have used this mug and I have had it for over a month… Just looking at it brings me joy, but I was worried of ruining it, instead of focusing on the enjoyment of using it. And so, I am using it, and I intend to use it every single day.

Is there something you have been saving just for that ‘perfect time’?

  1. In the past, with me, it was clothes. We were brought up with ‘ordinary’ clothes and ‘best clothes’ which were for special occasions. That followed me into adulthood! Now, in old age, I wear all my clothes. I treat my wardrobe as a big dress up box.❤️😄❌️

    1. Love that you treat your wardrobe as a big dress up box – that sounds fab! I am guilty of buying clothes that I have kept for ‘good’ only to now discover, I no longer fit in them 🤣

      1. My solution to that is to have a major declutter twice a year, end of summer and winter. Anything that doesn’t fit, I don’t like anymore, or I haven’t
