Best time to Write? Summer Edition

I have done much complaining about the heat recently, but enough! I am not going to mention it again (I promise!). I am going to embrace it instead and adapt to these unusual weather conditions that have been affecting my creativity.

No more excuses, I am getting up early before the heat fries my brain.

I wrote in this previous post – Best Time to Write? – that I found I do my best creative writing in the evening, as otherwise it has to compete against all the things on my never-ending to-do list.

This early morning experiment has confirmed that this, in fact, is still the case…..however, what I have discovered is that muddled ideas, plots and outlines are much clearer. I can see the woods from the trees now with a couple of projects.

It’s still not ideal, and I am not quite used to getting up quite so early, but progress is being made so for now it will do. But I am not going to lie, I am longing to get back to that cosy, snuggly writing time with the cooler weather!

Do you change your writing time to suit the weather?

  1. I most definitely change with the weather. It’s freezing here and early mornings are hard. I’ve been getting to my desk later and later as we head into the depths of winter. I was given some excellent advice from a writing mentor. She recommended using the energetic part of the day (whenever that is- different for everyone) for creative writing and leaving the mindless tasks for when your brain is drained. I try to follow that rule most days. I find if I prioritise writing it stops me from procrastination cleaning.

    1. That’s good advice from your mentor. I just really struggle with imagination through the day for some reason, I think maybe because I have always read fiction in the evenings my brain associates that time with stories and storytelling. Think my house could do with a bit of procrastination cleaning!

I must admit I am a morning writer – by evening I am well and truly spent!

P.S Thank you for your encouraging words on the whole process! I always look forward to reading your posts.

    1. Thank you for your lovely comment! ❤ Yes by evening the struggle is real! I think the heat is making me perma-tired, might just need to wait until autumn to get fully back into the swing of things!

  3. Honestly, I don’t consider myself to be ‘a writer’, I just simply love to write.

‘Whenever I feel like it’ is my best time for writing 🤗

The coming and going of seasons doesn’t change a thing for me.

    1. I love writing on here and I tend to do that just whenever I feel inspired to do so, but I do have a couple of projects that I would like to actually get finished one day, and for them I do need a bit of structure and routine (and motivation!) otherwise I will never get them finished!! Writing just for the love of it, is the best though 😊
